The Loretto Volunteer Program provides an opportunity for an individual to share in the mission of the Loretto Community on a full time basis for a summer, semester, or year. Volunteers receive room and board, a small stipend and health insurance. They may also be eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award. Volunteer placements are determined on an individual basis. They have included a leadership program for low-income women; an empowerment program for women involved in the criminal justice system; a gardening/microeconomic project for the homeless; a medical clinic for the homeless; a bilingual school; Catholic Charities’ housing program and emergency assistance centers; organic gardening; after-school programs; ministry to the gay and lesbian community; and assisting Loretto’s Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) representative to the United Nations.
