Loretto Committee for Peace

The Loretto Committee for Peace makes the call for peace on behalf of the whole community and collaborates with others to make peace.
Many Loretto community members engage in the work of peace-making. The Loretto Committee for Peace is responsible for general community peace education work, and for officially representing the Loretto Community in the large and complex work for peace in this world.

Committee Responsibilities

  • supporting Loretto community members engaged in the work of peace-making
  • providing general community peace education
  • officially representing the Loretto Community in the large and complex work for peace in this world
  • encouraging Loretto Community members to be people of peace both internally and externally

Current Committee Focus

  • coordination of Loretto presence at the vigil to demand the closing of the School of the Americas at Fort Benning, GA
  • coordination of the Loretto Community’s remembrance of International Day for Peace
  • education of the Loretto Community on the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty
  • leadership of the Loretto engagement in the gun control campaign in the United States (ongoing)

Loretto Committee for Peace members are appointed by the President, on the recommendation of the Community Forum.
