Loretto Spotlight: We’re Proud of You, Escuela!

Posted on October 24, 2018, by Loretto Community

Escuela de Guadalupe is a Spanish-English bilingual Catholic school in northwest Denver, founded in 1999. The concept for the school began in conversations among the Sisters of Loretto, the Jesuits, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and other local community members. Vicki Schwartz SL now leads the dual-language, multi-cultural elementary school as interim president. She is responsible for the overall operations of the school, and she serves as its public voice. Among her duties, she is working to strengthen the relationship with the Denver Archdiocesan Office of Education, while maintaining the school as a private institution.

¡Salud!, Escuela’s major fund-raising event which took place Sept. 22 this year, helps to make a difference in the lives of Escuela’s deserving students. The annual event was its most successful ever, according to the school. Escuela premiered a beautiful video highlighting Escuela’s legacy and the Esparza family, who has been with the school through all its years. We are so proud of the work that Escuela is doing, we wanted to share the school’s video here.

Susan Swain SL, who died in 2012, co-founded Escuela de Guadalupe and served as a longtime board member. While Escuela de Guadalupe is not one of the Loretto Community’s Loretto-affiliated schools, the Community is honored to be part of the legacy of this unique and distinguished community of learners.
