The Committee for Racial Justice was established at the Loretto Assembly in 1999 to confront ethnic and racial prejudice and combat institutional racism.
Committee members have prepared materials for on-going discussions for Community Group meetings focused on white supremacy/white privilege.
Loretto pledged, as a community at Assembly 2003 “to engage in a period of deep reflection, study, and action over the next three years during which time we will confront our own ingrained racism and, at the same time, reach out in solidarity and friendship to communities of color in support of justice issues.”The Loretto Committee for Racial Justice hosted Ending the Silence — Living Loves That Matter on Saturday, May 5. Sylvester Brown, columnist for the St. Louis Post Dispatch presented challenging which was followed by a Q & A session and sharing information. Over 40 participants enjoyed conversing with other justice-oriented folks.
