Getting to the Motherhouse
The Loretto Motherhouse is nestled in the rolling, rural hills of Kentucky. Though the Motherhouse itself is quite technologically connected, in this part of the country sometimes GPS works well, sometimes it doesn’t. And Google has a hard time finding the Motherhouse street address. So in addition to the Google map link below with the Motherhouse marked on it, here are detailed driving directions.
From Bluegrass Parkway
Take Exit #42 – RTE. 555
At the end of the exit ramp,
TURN LEFT ONTO RTE 555, TOWARD SPRINGFIELD.
Proceed on Rte 555 about 14 miles. You’ll encounter 3 traffic lights.
At the 3rd traffic light, a McDonald’s restaurant will be on your right.
TURN RIGHT ONTO ROUTE 150 AT THE 3RD TRAFFIC LIGHT.
(Note that this is the second time you’ll intersect Rte 150.)
Proceed about 1 mile further to the junction with Rte 152.
A Southern States building is on the right.
TURN LEFT ONTO RTE 152.
Stay on Rte 152 for almost 10 miles. At that point, you’ll see a road sign for the Sisters of Loretto, as well as a stone sign about 50 feet off to the right that says “Loretto Motherhouse,” and the entrance.
TURN RIGHT INTO THE MOTHERHOUSE DRIVE. (If you miss the Motherhouse drive, you’ll come to a stop sign and intersection with Rte 49, and will know that you’ve gone ½ mile too far.)
From Louisville / I-65
Drive south on I-65 from Louisville
EXIT ONTO RTE. 245 AT THE BARDSTOWN/CLERMONT EXIT, #112.
At the end of the exit ramp, TURN LEFT (EAST) ONTO RTE. 245.
In about 15 miles you will come to a “major” intersection in Bardstown, where Rtes. 150/31E cross Rte. 245. There will be a Kroger on the left and a small strip mall on the right.
GO STRAIGHT AT THE LIGHT AND STAY ON RTE. 245 UNTIL IT DEAD-ENDS AT RTE. 150.
There will be a large Walmart on your right, and a Lowe’s on your left. (Note that this is the second time you come to Rte. 150.)
TURN LEFT ONTO RTE. 150, toward Springfield, and proceed about 13 miles, at which point the college of St. Catharine will come into view.
AT THE FIRST LIGHT, TURN RIGHT and proceed counter-clockwise, 2/3 of the way around the round-about, coming out on Rte 150 again. Proceed about 1 mile, to where Rte 152 enters from the right and a Southern States Building sits on the left.
TURN RIGHT ONTO RTE 152.
Stay on Rte. 152 for almost 10 miles. At that point, on the right, you’ll see a small green road sign that says “Sisters of Loretto,” and then a stone sign that says “Loretto Motherhouse,” with two stone pillars on either side of the drive.
TURN RIGHT INTO THE MOTHERHOUSE DRIVE. (If you miss the Motherhouse drive and come to a stop sign and intersection with Rte 49, you’ve gone ½ mile too far.)
