Join LACC for Immigration Spotlight this Friday, August 26, at 11:00 am EDT for information on the recent crack downs in El Salvador and Nicaragua, including the closure the Missionaries of Charity and about 100 NGOs in Nicaragua.

Speakers:

  • Fidel Moreira: the Director of the Study Center for Governance and Democracy (CEGODEM), an NGO in Managua promoting proactive citizen participation. Fidel is currently living in exile in the U.S.
  • Marta Benavides: a spiritual leader, educator and ecologist from El Salvador who has led many initiatives towards peace in Central America. She was force to live in exile from her native country after the assassination of Msgr. Oscar Romero, with whom she worked closely.  She is the founder of SIGLO XXIII, working for a culture of peace in El Salvador.

The Latin America Caribbean Committee’s Immigration Spotlight is a bi-monthly opportunity to explore emerging issues and challenges regarding immigration, featuring people working for immigration justice.
