Babies and Elders (and everyone in between!)
Please join us this Friday, December 19th at 11 am EST/8am Pacific, for our end-of-the-year holiday special Immigration Spotlight focusing on Babies and Elders (and everyone in between)! To request the Zoom link, use the contact form at the end of the post.
We will bring news of hope from the Parteras (midwifery service) — those babies just keep coming — and the support for elderly LGBTQI+ persons by Casa de Arcoíris. We will also hear about Espacio Migrante’s continued service for the Haitian community and how Denver is addressing the migrant crisis. Find out how you can support with end-of-the-year giving to these fabulous organizations!
Our speakers:
- Ximena Rojas is founder and coordinator of Partería y Medicinas Ancestrales, a midwifery service for migrant women that runs a clinic and mobile services in Tijuana, Mexico. Ximena also coordinates volunteer midwives along the migrant trail from Chiapas to Tijuana.
- Paulina Olvera Canez, director and founder, Espacio Migrante, a binational community organization based in Tijuana, Mexico, that serves migrant communities providing human rights education, comprehensive care and housing while raising awareness about migrants along the U.S./Mexico border.
- Nicolasa “Sire” Cordova, director of Casa de Arcoíris, an LGBTQI+ shelter for asylum-seekers founded in 2018 responding to the needs of the LGBTQI+ migrants in Tijuana, Mexico.
- Martha Crawley, who is involved with the immigration partnership team in Denver where she does the court watch and “know your rights” sessions in the metro area.
- Bob Kee, Loretto Link member and LACC partner in Tucson, AZ. Bob provides on-the-ground assistance at the border doing food and water drops and visiting migrants at the Detention jails, many times gifting much needed commissary small funds for daily essentials.
The Latin America Caribbean Committee’s Immigration Spotlight is a bi-monthly opportunity to explore emerging issues and challenges regarding immigration, featuring people working for immigration justice.
