The Latin America Caribbean Committee’s Immigration Spotlight is a bi-monthly opportunity to explore emerging issues and challenges regarding immigration, featuring people working for immigration justice.
This week, the spotlight will be on LGBTQI+ migrants byCasa Arcoiris (Rainbow House) Director, Nicolasa “Sire” Cordova, co-founder of the only migrant shelter in Tijuana, Mexico serving the LGBTQI+ community. “Sire” directs a shelter for about 35 migrant residents at Casa Arcoiris, started 4 years ago to provide special attention to LGBTQI+ migrants. We will also hear from our partner, Paulina Olvera Cañez, Executive Director of Espacio Migrante, in Tijuana, with border updates on how the new Biden Administration policies are impacting migrants, particularly Haitians and those targeted by the recent policy change from Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua.
