Loretto believes the Gospels – and Pope Francis‘s encyclical “Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home” – call us to imagine and help build a future marked by healing, justice and care for Earth.
One way we live this out is through the Carbon Reduction Fund. The fund helps individuals and organizations wanting to join with Loretto in giving help to people and places suffering from climate disruption. The fund has helped to support the installation of solar panels, planting trees to replenish Earth, offer education on carbon emissions and secure sound local infrastructure – from irrigation systems to fencing to providing the necessary tools to get it all done.
Loretto’s Investment Committee also plays a role in shaping a healthier future. Though not rich in finances, the committee directs loans and investments toward non-profits whose missions match Loretto’s values. A notable example is the investment made a few years ago in the Iroquois Valley Farms and Trust, which supports people committed to organic farming. Today, Iroquois Farms and Trust works in 20 states, helping small organic farms thrive. We believe this farming positively impacts the health of the planet and the farmland, giving the U.S. a healthier food system. Together with our partners, friends and donors, Loretto continues to nurture a bright and hopeful future. This week’s Loretto Facebook posts will feature several Loretto committees and the great work that they do.
