Happy Thanksgiving! Blessings from the Loretto Community

“Do you think there is anything,” asked Mary Oliver, “not attached by its unbreakable cord to everything else?”

As we think of Mary Oliver’s words to us this Thanksgiving, let us pray: Receive our gratitude O God, for the gift of our lives and all of creation, help us appreciate, nurture and care for all of nature’s gifts.

Jesuit priest the Rev. Paddy Gilger writes that “thank you” are words that are good to say. But as every grateful person knows they are small and don’t measure up to all we have been given.”

As a community of followers of Jesus, the more we say “thank you,” we, too, can be like God, the giver of all good, who blesses and gives, with no strings attached, to those who need us.

Please read Mary Oliver’s quote again: “We are all attached to everyone and everything God has put before us. That truth attaches us to each other and to God.”

As we remember our blessings and prepare this Sunday to enter the season of Advent, our “Season of Hope,” let us give thanks.

Blessings from the Loretto Community.
