Loretto’s Emerging Forms: Searching for New Ways of Being

“Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.”
Arundhati Roy
We are in a time of significant disruption and chaos as many of our systems are crumbling before our eyes. From the midst of the chaos, new ways of being are emerging, like the seedling that shows itself in early spring. Initially, the Emerging Forms Committee was formed to give attention to what may be emerging in Loretto, what new forms of membership we might explore. Because of conversations with many people, both within and beyond Loretto, who are seeking meaning for their lives in the midst of Community, the focus broadened to honor how to live a committed life now and into the future.
American theologian Ilia Delio, OSF, muses on the future of a committed life: “What form will this new type of religious [committed] life take? Many forms, for love and compassion know no bounds. Our challenge is to make a radical shift in our thinking about ourselves, which means finding within ourselves a radical freedom and trust in the creative power of love.” (Excerpt from Global Sisters Report, Sept. 12, 2018)
