Hunger Fund Update

The Hunger Fund Committee has met three times this year to respond to the heightened need for food experienced by many families and food pantries who are trying to meet these needs. To date, we have given funds to the following:
- Kelly Center for Hunger Relief — El Paso, Texas
- Deacon Kevin Sartorius for a food pantry — Inola, Okla.
- Misión Peniel (distributes garden produce boxes to immigrant families) — Immokalee, Fla.
- Judy Popp — local families who are food insecure in vicinity of the Motherhouse
- United with Migrants — Arvada, Colo.
- St. Vincent de Paul (food pantry at St. Pius V) — St. Louis
- Bienvenidos Food Bank — Denver
- Southwest Improvement Council — Denver
- Escuela de Guadalupe (gives funds to families) — Denver
- The House of Bread — Dayton, Ohio
- Red Circle – St. Louis
- Jemez Helping Hands — Jemez Springs, N.M.
- Casa San Juan — Houston
- Sacred Heart Family Development Center – El Paso, Texas
- Francis House Catholic Worker — Albuquerque, N.M.
We have focused on small parish and neighborhood food assistance programs that serve migrants and those who are jobless and frequently without documentation necessary to secure food stamps or other help.
With the generous donations of all the sisters who gave their stimulus checks to Loretto, we have been allotted additional funds that were distributed in amounts of $500 to $1,500 for each of the above agencies.
The Hunger Fund Committee members (Pat Frueh, Pat Joyce, Angela Bianco and Janet Rabideau) will continue to accept contributions and meet more frequently to meet needs during these extraordinary times. Please forward any requests for funding to Janet at the Loretto Motherhouse by Labor Day 2020. We will review requests and distribute funds in September.
