Loretto’s Latin America/Caribbean Committee (LACC) advocates for the rights of migrants and immigrants, asylum-seekers, farmworkers, those held in detention jails and in bureaucratic processing limbo. LACC also adheres to Loretto’s mission and values and works to be a source of hope and a force for change while seeking justice and peace for all who are impacted by the inhumane immigration policies and the decades-long interventionist foreign policy of the United States throughout the region.
The Loretto Community supports migrant advocacy work at the border with established partners and new allies. LACC continues to educate on the issues at the border and seeks to raise donations for the important and urgent needs of the migrant community facing challenges at the border. In 2023, we will continue to work with new advocacy partners on pressing for policy changes and immigration reform.
In addition to its work with partner organizations, LACC presents regular “Immigration Spotlights,” highlighting timely topics in migration. LACC also will resume trips to the U.S./Mexico border (“Border Trips”) in 2023, pending COVID restrictions and/or alerts.
