Loretto, global community celebrate 2026 Season of Creation

Loretto joins the global community in celebrating the 2026 Season of Creation. This annual ecumenical observance begins Sept. 1, the “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation,” and continues through Oct. 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecology. 

This year’s theme is “Living Water.” In Pope Leo’s prayer for the celebration, he reminds us that ecological conversion begins within us, yet is meant to flow outward, transforming our lives, how we care for one another and how we tend our common home. He noted that the world is “witnessing many crises and much human suffering” and the accelerating “disruption to the harmonious balance of creation. These phenomena are not unrelated; they are a single plea for healing and peace arising from a wounded world.” 

In honor of this Season of Creation, Loretto’s Facebook page this week will highlight the Community’s ongoing ministry of care for Earth.
