Two weeks ago 11 teachers and staff from St. Mary’s Academy (SMA), Denver; Loretto Academy, El Paso; and Nerinx Hall High School, Webster Groves, Mo., took part in the annual trip for educators to the Loretto Motherhouse led by SMA’s Regina Drey SL and Christina Garcia CoL. Enriched and inspired by conversations with several resident Sisters and Co-members of Loretto throughout the three-day immersion, the participants also traversed the 788-acre campus for a history tour, sessions on modern spirituality, Loretto’s commitment to the environment, Loretto’s future, Community Mass, hayride through the agricultural fields with farmer Cody and educator Angela, tour of the Heritage Center and research on our schools’ roots with expert curators in the Loretto Archives — with time for reflective walks to the Rhodes Hall art gallery, Our Lady of Sorrow Cemetery, Cedars of Peace retreat area, lakes, chapel and labyrinth.

“I think I will most take with me conversations with thoughtful and wise women who have chosen to dedicate their lives to service, to understanding and to community” said Ellen Hertzman, SMA lower school and middle school library support.

“I’m looking forward to bringing a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Loretto school and the values we all share to my conversations with new and prospective families,” said Jessica Ede, SMA assistant director of admissions.
