Loretto: For All the Saints!

Posted on April 13, 2026, by Loretto Community

There is a great song many choirs sing during the Easter season. A line from the chorus goes like this:

Colorful mural of St. Oscar Romero and Ann Manganaro with the text La muerte no es verdad cuando se ha cumplido bien la obra de la vida" (translation: "Death is not real when the work of life has been well fulfilled.")
The text at the bottom of this mural of St. Oscar Romero and Ann Manganaro SL reads “Death is not real when the work of life has been well fulfilled.” What better way to describe the life of a saint!

Shine Jesus, Shine. Fill this land with the Savior’s Glory.
Blaze, Spirit, Blaze. Set our hearts on fire!

By Graham Kendrick

That is the song the saints sing in praise of God. The saints enter God’s brightness, and by that brightness become people of truth and grace. Their hearts are on fire for God, and lives show it. Their stories tell the story of God. Saints of old, saints of now, be with us. Set our hearts on fire.

Favorite Loretto saints include Sts. Lucy, Agnes, Catherine, Mary Magdalene, Joan of Arc, Theresa, Elizabeth, Anna, Martha, Hildegund, Dorothee, Rosa and more; St. Joseph, who served as the inspiration of the original name of Loretto’s Infirmary; St. Charles Borromeo, for the Rev. Charles Nerinckx, our priest-founder; St. Stephen, for the Loretto Motherhouse land; all the Guardian Angels – for safety and protection; the Apostles and Disciples, Ignatius, Bede, and Isadore for our farmers; and Mary under all her titles, especially Our Lady of Sorrows and Mt. Carmel.

Who are your favorite saints? Who has set your heart on fire?

“And let perpetual light shine on them.”
