Readers of Interchange and Loretto announcements and those who check the committee member lists in the Loretto Directory know Mary Ann Lovett.

As she puts it, when she decided to become part of the co-membership process, she “realized that San Antonio, Texas, was basically ‘no-Loretto land.’ So from my initial steps I began to investigate how to be connected personally, as well as be vested in Community efforts.”

She continues, “Boldly, days after making my commitment, I applied for and was appointed a member of the Pakistan Committee.” She has read, watched DVDs, met with the Pakistani sisters and joined in the committee meetings.

She is a consultant on Loretto’s Latin America/Caribbean Committee.

Mary Ann joined in activities of the Turkish Raindrop House in San Antonio where she became friends with Muslim women who promote dialogue and understanding.

Given her keen interest, she received an invitation to be a board consultant for their Dialogue Institute. There she met Martha Ann Kirk CCVI, head of the University of the Incarnate Word’s Social Justice Department and was thus introduced to the Interfaith Welcome Coalition involved with two Texas Family Detention Centers. (See March 2015 Interchange about her involvement with this group.)

In addition to being involved in committee work, to keep herself enriched and connected, Mary Ann joins by Skype a Bible study group in El Paso once a week and the Loose Group by Zoom once a month in Denver for book discussions.

Mary Ann is surely as active as anyone in the Community! She attends a community group in Denver and in fact is now the convener of Community Group 3.

In Mary Ann’s words: “I became a co-member of the Loretto Community because of a heart connection but have been propelled into a much expanded life because of it.”
