Reflections from the Lenten Prayer Service for Peace

Posted on March 6, 2024, by Loretto Community

Last week, Feb. 28, the Motherhouse Community and friends organized a public prayer service in front of Senator Mitch McConnell’s office. Here are photos, quotes and press from the event.

Mary Swain reflects, “The service was excellent, involving many persons to read a short piece or to speak. There was singing led by a small group, a choir. We could all join in. We were outside at 6th and Broadway, busy corner, outside the courthouse. Certainly 65 people there, maybe more. We had 50 programs, passed them out and shared with others. A good feeling.”

Susan Classen says, “I was inspired by all of the people who came and the realization that we are not alone in our concern for the Palestinians in Gaza. I left feeling emboldened to continue speaking out in collaboration with others who are also committed to being strong, peaceful and prayerful voices.”

Women in winter coats stand outside a large building, holding signs in protest of the war in Gaza.

The gathering was picked up by several news sources as seen below.

Thank you to all who attended!
