Located on the grounds of the Loretto Motherhouse in Nerinx, Ky., the Heritage Center houses documents and artifacts from the 200-plus year history of the Sisters of Loretto and Loretto Community. Visiting the museum and researching in our archival collections are wonderful ways to engage with history, but these are just two options offered by the Heritage Center. Visitors can also explore the Heritage Center digitally without the need to travel.
The Heritage Center offers digital content that highlights various aspects of our work and of the history of Loretto. Digital exhibits complement physical temporary and permanent displays, LOREtto blog posts feature some of the fascinating stories we uncover during our work, and our Facebook and Instagram pages give peeks into the daily discoveries in the archives and museum.
Are you interested in viewing our museum and archival collections in more depth? You can now browse our catalog of more than 1,800 objects at https://lorettoheritagecenter.omeka.net/. Visitors to the site can search with tags or browse the entire collection. Every entry features a photo of the object as well as detailed information on its history and ties to Loretto. Those interested in our archival collections can browse portions of our photograph collection at https://lorettocommunity.canto.com/v/Archives. This site will continue to grow as we work to digitize this collection of approximately 40,000 images.
During this time of restricted travel, we hope to bring our history to you using new and exciting digital tools. We invite you to take a break from scrolling on social media and instead explore the rich history of Loretto.
