As we enter into the second week of Advent, our hearts turn toward hope and renewal. This season invites us to prepare with joy and anticipation.

Within this week, we celebrate two major feast days of Mary:
- Dec. 8 – The Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which honors the belief that Mary was conceived without sin, and
- Dec. 12 – The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose tender love and steadfast faith continue to inspire Loretto and communities across the Americas in carrying out works for justice and peace. Her witness calls us to stand with those on the margins and to embody compassion in action.
We also lift up El Paso Villa Maria, founded by Loretto Sister Helen Santamaria in 2007. The non-profit organization empowers women experiencing homelessness on their journey to self-sufficiency, offering shelter, support and dignity. Villa Maria’s ministry reflects the Advent spirit — bringing hope to individuals seeking new beginnings.
May this week of Advent deepen our commitment to justice, mercy and community as we honor two of Mary’s major feasts and celebrate the transformative work of Villa Maria.
Thank you, Loretto Communications, for this very lovely tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe and for highlighting Villa Maria’s mission, which embraces women experiencing homelessness in El Paso and brings hope to those seeking new beginnings.
