What is Emerging?

It is April, the season of New Life! Is there New Life emerging in my/your life and in the Loretto Community?

The idea of people and/or communities going through a transformation has been around for a long time, but it seems to be cropping up more often the past several months. Would that be a clue that this is something we need to look at, ponder and converse with each other about?

Ted Dunn, in an article in “The Occasional Papers” (LCWR, Winter 2021) entitled “Seeing with New Eyes — The Inner Work of Transformation Needed for These Times,” suggests that “during these transitional times we are compelled to change, but might there be a deeper invitation, the possibility of transformation and new life? We are at a ‘graced crossroads’ which invites us to look beyond the surface changes of our lives and explore the inner work of transformation. … The only way to discern God’s call to New Life is through a journey of transformation.”

This kind of inner journey calls us to let go of our futile attempts to cling to what is not working and to stop trying to control the things we can’t control. It is a communal faith journey by which the community discerns God’s call to New Life and transforms the meaning, purpose and lived expression of community and its mission. Transformation does not just polish up old ideas or structures. Transformation creates something new! What is it that wants to happen in the Loretto Community? Are we willing to take this journey? We are at our “sacred crossroads” — we can choose Life as the caterpillar does when it becomes the butterfly! Or remain the caterpillar and die!

We invite you to ponder with us the exciting possibilities as we begin to see with new eyes! Any response from you is welcomed! May your spring be filled with New Life!
