What is Emerging?

As I was beginning to ponder what the topic for July Interchange might be, it suddenly dawned on me that there is only one thing that is all inclusive in the Universe and that is Love. As we look at our world today, it seems the human family has not gotten this message yet. Or as Eileen Custy commented in her Pentecost homily, “Everything and everyone thrive on Love, so why are we so reluctant to share it?”

As I did a bit more pondering about this question I came across spiritual writers who have recently written about God’s love in the world, and that it is God’s loving energy that pervades the Universe. The mystics have always taught this, but as we know, many mystics of the past were censored by the church, so their wisdom was not available until many years later. For further reading, I recommend three of our modern mystics, Ilia Delio, Elizabeth Johnson and Mathew Fox, listed in the sources.

Back to Eileen’s question: “Everything and everyone thrive on Love, so why are we so reluctant to share it?” How would you answer this question? Do we as a Community truly believe this Love energy is real? How does one share this Love? Perhaps it would be helpful if we engaged in conversations with each other sharing our experiences and offering our support to others in the Community. And lastly, what would happen in our country, our world, if each of us made it a spiritual practice to share this Love with everyone we meet, with loving kindness and compassion? So be it!
