Living Center residents participate in peace event

Posted on November 1, 2023, by Carolyn Jaramillo CoL

Thanks to the work and dedication of Stacy Ballard, activities coordinator at the Loretto Living Center, and her team, the Loretto Motherhouse Community joined other peace activists across the country to participate in an action for nonviolence on September 28. Though COVID-19 restrictions made it more difficult, Stacy was not deterred in fulfilling the promise she had made earlier to the Motherhouse Peace Committee to encourage residents to participate in Peace Week.

Stacy enabled Living Center residents to participate in the From Weapons to Windmills activity by bringing materials to each person. Working in their own rooms, residents made and decorated windmills.

At the Peace Week ceremony, Stacy reminded us of our responsibility to care for the environment. Then it was an inspirational moment, indeed, as determined peacemakers managed to plant their windmills around a peace pole while others burst forth with favorite peace songs.
