Latin America/Caribbean Committee (LACC) of the Loretto Community invite you to an NGO CSW Forum virtual Parallel Event on the occasion of the 68th Commission on the Status of Women

When:  Friday, March 15th at 2:00pm EDT (NY) / 11:00am PDT

Where:  Zoom – Registration link

Immigration Spotlight will take place under the auspices of the United Nations 68th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), an annual event dedicated to women’s rights, gender equality and women’s empowerment, that plays a crucial role in addressing gender equality and women’s rights globally. While the focus of the Immigration Spotlight primarily centers on immigration and migrant justice, it intersects with the UN CSW68 by highlighting the gendered impacts on migrants, poverty as a root cause of migration and the rights of refugee and asylum-seekers.

The LACC’s Immigration Spotlight will provide a critical platform for dialogue on the current border situation while amplifying the voices of women, LGBTQI+ and marginalized communities globally.

Programme:

Viridiana “Viry” Zuniga, Casa Arcoiris, an LGBTQI+ shelter for asylum-seekers in Tijuana,  Baja California, Mexico

Paulina Olvera Canez, Director and Founder, Espacio Migrante, a binational community organization based in Tijuana, Mexico, which serves migrant communities providing human rights education, comprehensive care and housing at the same time raising awareness about the realities of migrants.

Dora Rodriguez, Director and Co-Founder, La Casa de la Esperanza, a migrant servicing center in Sasabe, Sonora, a project of Salvavision.

Discussant:  Katharina Obser, Director, Migrant Rights and Justice, Women’s Refugee Commission*
