Faith and Spirituality

Banner designed by Robert Strobridge with starburst and phrase "Be Light Into Darkness."

Because the Gospel urges us, Loretto works for justice and acts for peace through our four pillars of Education, Advocacy, Healing and Spirituality.

Loretto’s faith and spirituality flow from a deep trust in a loving God and from the grounding of the Sisters of Loretto in the loving and courageous mission of Jesus Christ. We understand spirituality not as something separate from daily life, but as a journey that frees us to love more boldly, act more justly and serve more compassionately – love outpoured for all creation

Rooted in the outpoured love of Christ and Mary’s steadfast presence at the foot of the cross, Loretto spirituality calls us to see the sacred in every person and to respond to the world’s suffering with courage and hope. As I Am the Way, Loretto’s Constitutions, #54, reminds us, “As friends of Mary, mother of Jesus and woman of faith, we united ourselves with her seven sorrows and frequently invoke her intercession.” This way of life shapes how we pray, how we make decisions and how we stand with those who face injustice.

Within the Loretto Community, members find both encouragement and challenge: to grow into their truest selves, to seek the Holy Mystery that draws us beyond ourselves, and to live the Gospel through concrete acts of justice and mercy. As Pope Leo XIII teaches, “Baptism is the door to the spiritual life, opening for us the way of faith and the gifts of grace.” Through this sacrament, we are grounded in dignity and strengthened for mission.

Our Community becomes the container that holds and deepens each person’s commitment to the One who is our Way, our Truth and our Life, and sends us forth to help transform the world.
