Today! Alice Kitchen: Cities for CEDAW Role Model for Justice
March 11 at 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm
- This event has passed.
Join us on Zoom at 4:30 pm EDT, March 11, as Loretto/BVM at the UN will be honoring the legacy of Loretto co-member Alice Kitchen with a parallel event, “Alice Kitchen: Cities for CEDAW Role Model for Justice.”
Loretto at the UN is collaborating with the Women’s Intercultural Network (WIN) for an intergenerational conversation about the UN Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). We’ll approach the topic through stories of intrepid Kansas City activist Alice Kitchen, whose life exemplified the tenets of social justice.
Alice (Aug. 23, 1942-Nov. 14, 2025) was a social worker who excelled at the individual level and systems levels, drawing out the connections among poverty, weak policy and unjust systems. She was an excellent role model of women’s local and national leadership, and an expert on the Cities for CEDAW movement. Alice excelled at turning a principle into a policy, and the ability to make rights real. This event will be both a memorial and an inspiration to action.
