What is Emerging?

Thomas Merton (1915-1968) has been a favorite of Loretto folks for many years. His teachings and writings continue to inspire and challenge us, and so much of what he wrote in his lifetime is still pertinent today. We invite you to join us in pondering a prayer taken from “Passion for Peace,” a book of his social readings edited by William H. Shannon, 2015: Merciful, Creator God, whose designs are inscrutable … and compassion is inexhaustible, grant us above all to see that our ways are not necessarily your ways, that we cannot fully penetrate the mystery of your designs, and that the very storm of power now raging on this earth reveals your will and your inscrutable decision. Grant us to see your face in the lightning of this cosmic storm.*
How do I sense God’s leading through these times? How has “God’s will” evolved over my life? How do I experience the face of God in the lightning of this present moment?
Thank you. We are grateful to you all. Blessings!
* The total Merton prayer was read in the House of Representatives April 12, 1962.
