Loretto thanks you for your support of our U.N. initiative, Loretto at the UN. We also recognize our partners in action: the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Dubuque, Iowa (BVMs), Sisters Rising Worldwide (SRW) and Mary’s Pence. We hope you appreciate our social media posts about what we’ve achieved this past year.

The reflection below is from our new 2024-25 intern Grace Broome. As you’ll see, we continue to grow, to collaborate and to welcome new energy as we connect people across the generations and around the globe!

My name is Grace Broome, and I am passionate about creating a more just and sustainable world. I’m deeply committed to addressing the interconnected challenges of climate change and social inequality, and working toward solutions that promote peace, equity, diversity and resilience for all.

During my time studying at Kenyon College, I realized that my friendships with peers from around the world revealed food as a universal language. Many evenings were spent on dorm room floors, sharing communal meals, childhood snacks, and stories — moments that deepened my appreciation for the power of cultural exchange. My passion for languages has only grown through coursework and experience, and I’m constantly seeking ways to deepen my ability to work collaboratively across cultural and linguistic boundaries.

One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is the power of community. Observing the International Day to End Violence Against Women and Girls (Nov. 25 annually) has been particularly meaningful to me. As the kick-off of the #16DaysofActivism, this day highlights the systemic inequities and violence faced by women and girls globally, while calling for empowerment and systemic change to benefit all people. To me, initiatives like #16Days represent the heart of global advocacy — transforming words into actions that address historical injustices and create tangible progress. By uplifting marginalized voices, we pave the way for more inclusive peace and equity. Participating in and amplifying these efforts aligns deeply with my values and my desire to be an active agent of change.

After graduating, I sought opportunities to grow both professionally and personally while connecting with a community that shares my values. The Loretto at the UN internship is a natural extension of my passions, offering the resources to refine my career goals and the chance to contribute to building bridges, taking action for climate justice, fostering security, achieving gender equity and promoting lasting change on a global scale.
