Loretto Cries for Those Killed in the Tree of Life Synagogue

Posted on October 29, 2018, by Loretto Community

Loretto cries for those killed in the Tree of Life Synagogue Oct. 27 in Pittsburgh as the synagogue’s community gathered for the Shabbat service to kindle the Sabbath lights.

The list of the deceased numbers 11, with eight injured. Among those killed were the Rosenthal brothers, who were inseparable and looked out for each other, kind and good men who showed kindness toward all, they were members of ACHIEVA, a center for the disabled; Bernice and Sylvan Simon, married for 60 years, who were kind and generous neighbors; and Jerry Rabinowitz, 66 years old, who was a primary care physician with such a joyful spirit.

The Pittsburgh Steelers created the image for Pittsburgh: “Stronger than Hate.” Loretto joins with their message of peace.

“Lead us to lie down Adonai our God in peace and awaken us, O God, to life.”

A Midrash from Siddur Hahida
