Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere with a socioeconomic condition plagued by political instability. Loretto’s Carbon Reduction Fund awarded $500 to the Association of Peasants of Fondwa for an agroforestry program in Medor, Haiti, to rehabilitate a degraded area.

Agroforestry is a way of capturing carbon emissions to combat climate change. The program serves 2,320 farmers in Medor. The program’s success is remarkable when considering the number of trees planted, the emergence of green vegetation as a sign of environmental rehabilitation, a sustained community participation and the increase in the bean crop yield.
