2019’s CSW (Commission on the Status of Women) was hosted by Irish Ambassador Byrne Nason. Its priority theme was about the “social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls,” and the review theme was on “women’s empowerment and the link to sustainable development.”

Loretto at the UN co-sponsored three parallel events. One was titled “Systemic Commitment to Peace, Justice and Transformation” at the Church Center of the United Nations. We also sponsored two additional events entitled “Breakthrough in Transforming Patriarchy: The Promise of Gender Equity and Reconciliation” with Gender Equity Reconciliation International and “Transformative Spirituality: Living in and Through the Spirit” with the Medical Mission Sisters.
One of our favorite events from this year’s commission was the panel, hosted by YWCA USA, World YWCA and Hispanics in Philanthropy, entitled “Refuge Denied: Women in Crisis at the U.S./Mexico Border.” It was wonderfully facilitated by YWCA and featured Loretto Academy in El Paso; you can watch the panel here: https://www.facebook.com/behipgive/videos/2328757137403352?sfns=mo
