Gratitude Is the Hallmark of the Heart
It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name O God; to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at nighttime.Ps. 92:1
That first verse of Psalm 92 says it all: “It is good to give thanks to the Lord.” And how much we have to be thankful for!
This week, please share our Thanksgiving image above at your Thanksgiving feasts. In that way, you will be joining with Loretto as we say thank you first to God, for all we have been given, and then thank you to all the farmworkers, who day in and day out bring God’s bounty to our tables, regardless of the often terrible toll it takes on them to do so. They labor day after day, month after month, year after year in the fields and food processing factories of the world to feed us all.
Loretto honors them, thanks them and supports them in their quest for justice and fairness. Si, se puede! Yes, they do, yes, they can! Muchas gracias mi amigos. Loretto loves you and is grateful for all you do.
The past week was a special time in the life of Loretto. The Community celebrated its annual Assembly Nov. 14-18, focusing on the theme “Seeing with the Heart.” We had days filled with celebrations, meetings, discussions, presentations and elections. It truly was a week of “seeing with the heart” as members practiced gratitude for one another and those we serve by working together in harmony, in dialogue and in awareness of the signs of the times as we continued to extend the boundaries of our hearts to a world in need of peace and unity.
With the Assembly falling in November, a month not only dedicated to remembrance of those gone before us, but also a month of gratitude for the gracious blessings of God in our lives, we took this time to be alert for how God works in us and in the life of our time. We gathered in spiritual awareness to listen to what God is asking of Loretto in the months to come. The sign of the heart in our Assembly theme shows our heartfelt openness to receive all God gives us and a heart open to the needs of our sisters and brothers everywhere. “It is good to give thanks to the Lord.”
