Group Honors Maureen McCormack for Faith-filled Service

Maureen McCormack was among four longtime board members of the Interfaith Alliance of Colorado who completed their valued service to the board of directors and the organization. These members, along with five new board members, were honored recently by the group.
Maureen served on the board of directors for 15 years. It all started when someone called the Loretto Staff Office in Denver to see if a Loretto member would be willing to offer some reflections for a 1999 New Year’s Eve service at Jefferson Unitarian Church. Mary Kay Brannan took the call and contacted Maureen to see if she would be interested in doing it.
A few days into the new year, one of the Unitarians who had attended the service called Maureen to see if she would like to be on the board. After learning more about the Alliance, Maureen accepted.
Maureen also served on the National Board of the Interfaith Alliance, headquartered in Washington, D.C., for a number of years.
The mission of the Interfaith Alliance is “to promote justice, religious liberty and interfaith understanding by educating, organizing and equipping progressive people of faith and goodwill for advocacy, dialogue and celebration.”
When asked about her experience with the Interfaith Alliance, Maureen said, “I believe that wisdom is found in every spiritual tradition and among people of no particular faith. I wanted to tap into all of it. Because the Interfaith Alliance is composed of people from multiple belief systems, when we take public policy positions we are unlikely to promote issues which favor one tradition but exclude others.”
