The Loretto Community celebrates the creative minds and hearts of its members. This week, we highlight authors, poets, artists and craftspeople. They enhance the life of the Community and the wider world with their works. Loretto friend Thomas Merton has said, “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” We suspect Loretto artists have read Merton and done just as he thought.
“I Am the Way,” Loretto’s Constitutions, #41, states, “The Spirit of God is not bound; it reveals itself in the lives of everyone.” The Spirit of God has inspired deep, meaningful art. It is an art that comes wrapped in God’s own creativity and blessed into being in ways we could not do by ourselves. Art helps us find the sacred in every moment. Loretto authors, poets, artists and craftspeople are a treasure in the Loretto Community. They say to us, “Look, look around! Look at the world with us!”
