Loretto Creativity Shows the ‘Wholeness Hidden in All Things’

The Spirit of God is not bound; it reveals itself in the lives of everyone.
“I Am the Way,” Loretto Constitutions, #41
The letter to the Ephesians 2:10 tells us, “We are God’s work of art.” We are all artists, whether we realize it or not. And as artists we are called to look around at creation, at the faces of everyone we meet and at the beauty of Earth. The Loretto Community celebrates the creative minds and hearts of its members. Our authors, poets, sculptors, musicians, artists, photographers and craftspeople enhance the life of the Community and the wider world with their works. The philosopher Rainer Maria Rilke writes, “You must give birth to your images — the future must enter you long before it happens.” Loretto artists and authors do just that.
Loretto artists and authors have created music, walking sticks, watercolor pieces, books, poems, paintings, tiles, sculpture, pictures and so much more that reveal their take on the world around them. Their perceptive, honest, even funny templates of their lives and ours shines through. Each inspired person is a gift to Loretto. They make us look and really see, as Thomas Merton said, “the wholeness hidden in all things.”
