Striving To Care for Earth, Loretto Joins Global Justice Initiatives

“All is not lost. Human beings, while capable of the worst, are also capable of rising above themselves, choosing again what is good, and making a new start.” (Laudato Si’, #207)
The science is clear: The current climate crisis, inextricably linked with other crises of human displacement and social disruption, is caused by humans. We are complicit in the destruction of the world we hold so dearly. However, as Laudato Si’ reminds us, hope is not lost. While some damage is irreversible, there is still much that can be reversed and saved. Our task now is to decide what we want our role to be in this movement.

The Loretto Community has long cared for Earth in our personal and communal practices and commitments. We also recognize, though, that systemic change is just as crucial as personal change. We are now eagerly joining two global movements to call for climate justice and enter into a seven-year process of integral ecology.
The Laudato Si’ Action Platform is “a space for institutions, communities and families to learn and grow together as we journey toward full sustainability in the holistic spirit of integral ecology.”
Faiths4Climate Justice is a two-day global campaign for people of faith to call for climate justice around the world. Destroying the planet is against our religions! Our faith teaches that Earth and all people are sacred. Our societies and practices must change to reflect this reality.
Will you join us on this journey as we more deeply examine ourselves and stand in solidarity with others worldwide to restore Earth and reverse the imbalances that have led to this crisis?
