The Sarah Community Celebrates 25 Years

Posted on October 1, 2022, by Annie Stevens CoL

In 1997 The Sarah Community (TSC) was founded by five women’s congregations in Saint Louis, Mo., to meet the retirement and long-term care needs for their members and the general public. Since then, several Loretto residents, most recently Concha De La Cruz, have become part of this growing community where respect, compassion and a spirit of welcoming hospitality are key elements. Concha and her cat, Sox, were featured on the front page of the latest resident newsletter!

Over the past year, TSC’s board of directors completed a discernment process regarding the future and decided to transition ownership of the community from the Daughters of Charity and Franciscan Sisters of Mary to SSM Health Ministries. The transition became effective July 1. I continue to serve on the board, along with other congregational representatives, carrying forward the spirit of the founders.

As a Catholic health ministry with deep experience in operating independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities, SSM Health will ensure that the nearly 300 residents at TSC continue to receive the high-quality, faith-based care they’ve come to expect in each of the four houses: Naomi for independent living, Veronica for assisted living and Anna and Elizabeth for skilled care. TSC continues to be managed by its original management company, St. Andrew’s Resources for Senior Living, and residents will experience no disruption to their services. This transition will ensure The Sarah Community continues to thrive in the years ahead.
