I am pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees of Loretto Academy has appointed our fifth president, Nicole Cobb. Nicole is a 2002 graduate of Loretto Academy and is a native El Pasoan. Nicole attended Harvard University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry with a foreign language citation in Spanish. She earned a Master of Science in biochemistry from Stanford University School of Medicine with the intention of pursuing a career in biomedical research. Nicole discovered her passion for teaching while volunteering and has been a teacher ever since. She completed a Master of Arts in education at Stanford University.

Nicole has taught at the high school level in charter and parochial schools; she worked in online curriculum development and taught at El Paso Community College. She returned to Loretto in 2016 to teach science in the high school and quickly realized that Loretto Academy was “home.”

Nicole explained, “as the Dalai Lama wrote, ‘Give the ones that you love wings to fly, roots to come back and reasons to stay.’ Loretto gave me wings to explore, rooted me in core values and reasons to return.”

Nicole will begin her position as president of Loretto Academy on May 2. Although I am retiring, I am not leaving Loretto or the El Paso Community. Instead, I will work with Nicole to ensure a smooth transition and will assume the position of Advisor to the President for one year. Please join me in welcoming Nicole Cobb.

Buffy spent many years as both and regular and special education teacher in Colorado, Kentucky and Iowa. After receiving her MSW she was a community organizer with All Families Deserve a Chance (A.F.D.C.) Coalition. She has spent many years as president of Loretto Academy in El Paso. A highlight for her was walking across the United States in 1986 on the Great Peace March for Global Nuclear Disarmament.
