Loretto Motherhouse embraces visiting artists, groups, who, in turn, do same

The book of Genesis tells us, “The Lord is definitely in this place, and I didn’t know it. This sacred place is awesome.” (Gen.28: 16-17) Of course, all Loretto members think the Motherhouse, with its wonderful grounds, is awesome. We believe it is “holy ground”; we find God there amidst all the beauty of each blade of grass.

Holy ground is a place of life-giving rootedness in something larger than just one person. It is a place of welcome where God speaks and we listen. Sister Elaine Prevallet SL wrote in her article “Grounded in the Holy,” “I pointed to a blade of grass, it was clear to me that God was at work creating this blade of grass that was transfigured before my eyes. God is actively shaping creation everywhere, in our midst, with us.” (“Weavings,” 1992)

Artists who visit Loretto find the beauty they search for, and Loretto finds the beauty they leave. We welcome the artists’ attentiveness as they visit, for they make beauty out of the holy things at Loretto Motherhouse, beauty for their soul and their talents. For we all are the work of God’s hands.
We invite you to visit Loretto’s Facebook page this week to learn about some of Loretto’s visiting artists and other groups that have graced the Motherhouse grounds.
