At the Mass on June 16 at Regis University for the rededication of Our Lady of Loretto, Lydia Peña, who founded the Spirit of Loretto Committee, the Loretto alumnae/alumni group at Regis, gave a moving reflection.
Lydia began by reminding the group she was an art history teacher and asking that the group “consider the images and beauty” surrounding them. “Water bubbling up and passing over the stone. Trees creating an arbor, a safe space…. Green lawns and blue sky!…. And YES, the image of Mary….”
She continues that Mary is “the voice, the prophetess, calling us all to build a more humane and just world.” And further, “She is calm strength in the face of an angry settle for too little, expect too little and divisive world….” Lydia explained, “Mary reminds us that we of ourselves and our God.”
