God steps out into the cosmos and tells us a story. Once it was all darkness, except for a tiny light, almost invisible yet weighty as its Creator. No water flowed, no mountains rose, no animals roamed, nothing grew. Only the passing of eons … till all of these beginnings went alive on a certain day.
In that time one star showed brighter than the rest, its beam pointing both upward and downward, and on that day the people from all parts of the world listened and heard the prophet say:
Lift up your eyes on high. See who has created these stars,
Is. 40:26
The One who leads forth their host by number,
God calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of God’s might and the strength of God’s power, not one of them is missing.
During this week of Epiphany, look up. You will see it. You will see the special star that the Wise Travelers saw that holy night we call Epiphany. You will see a star that leads you to the God for whom you search. Because of Jesus’ coming we know and understand not only who God, our Creator is, but also who we are. You will know. Follow that star.
Then the glory of our God shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together, for the mouth of our God has spoken.
Is. 40:5
