‘Taking the light of the sun’: Loretto women of wisdom

Looking for some wisdom? Reading what some of our longtime Loretto members have to say may help put you on a path to your own North Star. This week on Loretto’s Facebook page we will highlight Loretto members who have been making a difference in this world one heart at a time. Come with us as we capture just a glimpse of holy and happy women who give their lives in service to God and God’s people.
The women named in these various entries know well that no matter what they taught and who or where they served, the capacity to do it well depended on who they are and Whose they are. Through the strength of heart and soul they are connected to God, to their students and to each other. They are real leaders who lead by faith, by example, by wholeness and by true love for what they did. They share the light of God.
I Am the Way, the Constitutions of the Sisters of Loretto, #41, reads, “The Spirit of God is not bound; it reveals itself in the lives of everyone. Even as we give to others, we acknowledge our need to learn from those to whom we are sent.”
The members you will see on Loretto’s Facebook page are all Loretto women of conviction, of vision. They are nurturing women. They are holy women filled with the Spirit of God. This quote from Thomas Merton, a friend of Loretto, says it best: “The humble person receives praise the way a clean window takes the light of the sun. The truer and more intense the light is, the less you see of the glass.”
Our Sisters, our co-members, our friends, show us, not simply themselves, but our selves, our future, our faith, our God … because of their light. Thank you to each.
