What is Emerging?
Posted on April 1, 2022, by Mary Ellen McElroy SL
April is a lovely month with spring freshness popping up all around us offering countless opportunities to experience the awe and wonder of new life bursting forth. Of course, April is not the only time we have opportunities for these experiences. Indeed, life itself is filled with potential occasions for us to experience awesomeness and wonderment all the time. What often happens in our hurried, busy lives is that we may look at a sunset or lovely spring flowers or enjoy a baby’s laugh and think “that is awesome,” but once out of sight, out of mind!
What has to happen to have the real experiences of awe and wonder? The mystics tell us for these experiences to be transformative we must give time and silence to muse on what we are beholding, to wonder about the experiences, to stand in awe of their beauty, their purpose, their being. When we are able to move in that space, we are struck with a real awe and wonder that arises from the Creator’s hand in everything. Once we are able to experience life this way, the habitual ways of how we relate, think and act begin to dissolve so that we begin to see what is real, beautiful and possible. These experiences often draw us out of ourselves so that we are transformed into more compassionate, empathetic, loving human beings.
We invite you to join us as we walk in quiet stillness, greeting each other and the world with an open heart, reaching out and embracing living in all its richness, variety and staggering awe and wonder. What touches your heart and brings joy? What wisdom have you learned? What difference would there be in the Loretto Community if all of us lived this way? If you would like to share your reflections with us, we would be happy to receive them. Thank you.
