Gun Control Measures Pass

A California referendum called for background checks for anybody who wants to purchase bullets — and it passed! This is the first control on ammunition in the nation. Additionally, the referendum requires owners to report lost and stolen guns immediately. It bans the sale of large-capacity magazines (those boxes that feed bullets into guns), and it bars persons who have felony convictions from possessing guns.
In Washington State, when people are deemed dangerous, charged, for example, with domestic violence, judges can seize their guns. And Nevada will now extend background checks to gun shows, private sales and online sales. This referendum was supported by Everytown for Gun Safety, Michael Bloombergs’ advocacy group. Alas, it failed to pass in Maine. Maine (like Missouri) had no permit requirements or background checks beyond the federal requirement for purchase from a gun shop.
