The Lumen Christi Award was given posthumously to Sister Frances Marie Walsh SL, and Loretto Co-member Ried Clark was honored with the Spirit of Loretto Distinguished Alumnae Award July 15 at the Loretto Heights all-classes reunion in Machebeuf Hall on the former Loretto Heights College (LHC) in Denver. Two of Frances Marie’s nieces, Michaela and Sarah Walsh of New York and New Jersey respectively, joined in the reunion activities.

Sister Frances Marie taught at Nerinx Hall High School and was LHC president for 18 years where she was credited with tripling the size of the enrollment, enhancing the quality and quantity of the faculty, increasing the campus with seven new buildings and the development of new programs, including the School of Nursing, which continues today at Regis University in Denver. Ried, an active LHC alumnae, was a member of LHC’s Class of 1971. She was honored by the LHC Alumnae Committee in recognition of her years of exemplifying the Loretto spirit and values.

The Spirit of Loretto Awards are given annually to former LHC faculty or staff and outstanding alumni in recognition of personal achievement, substantial contribution of service to others and a commitment to the promotion of social justice consistent with the traditions and mission of the Sisters of Loretto.

Congratulations to the family of Sister Frances Marie and to Ried on these LHC honors!
