Loretto Shares Ecological Lenten Guide Focusing on Our Relationship, Responsibility to Earth
We would like to share with you the “Lenten Reflection Guide 2020: A Journey Toward Ecological Conversion.” This Lenten resource was created by the Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns. It may be used individually or in small groups, providing opportunities for reflection, prayer and the renewal of your spirit as you face the challenging realities of today’s world.
Loretto selected this reflection guide for our Lenten season because it can take us, individually and communally, to a deeper awareness of the commitment Loretto made at our Assembly 2018 with the passage of Proposal 9 “to significantly mitigate our impact on climate change and ecological degradation.”
A Journey Toward Ecological Conversion blends Scripture readings with themes and actions related to ecological conversion as defined by Pope Francis. In Laudato Si’, Pope Francis says “the effects of [our] encounter with Jesus Christ become evident in [our] relationship with the world around [us]. … We come to realize that a healthy relationship with creation is one dimension of overall personal conversion, which entails the recognition of our errors, sins, faults and failures, and leads to heartfelt repentance and desire to change.”
The reflections in this Lenten season booklet present a new way to understand and practice living the message of the Gospel, including sacrifice and conversion. May its use deepen this holy season of Lent for us all.
