Loretto urgently calls for end to Middle East war

Loretto grieves the deaths in Israel, Gaza and the West Bank. Tens of thousands of people have been killed, mostly women and children. All their homes in Gaza are gone. The survivors in Gaza are starving. We, the Loretto Community, led by our president, Sister Barbara Nicholas SL, and the members of our Peace Committee, call on our United States government to:

Halt arms shipments to Israel
Continue diplomatic efforts of support for regional peacebuilding among Israel, Arab States and Hamas to guarantee security for Israel and Palestine
Initiate an airlift of food and water and medical supplies to Gaza
Insist that Israel halt its military attacks on Gaza
Insist on the release of all the hostages from Hamas.

The sorrow is immeasurable, and the issues are intractable. Nonetheless, steps must be taken now.

Loretto joins in prayer with all people of faith, asking President Biden and all leaders to choose peace and life.
