Genevieve Cavanaugh: ‘Inspiration to All’
Posted on June 1, 2019, by Liz Perez SL
In my brief interview with Genevieve, she told me she was taught by the Sisters of Loretto in Kansas City, Mo., throughout all of grade school and high school. (Eleanor Craig confirmed that she attended Loretto Academy in K.C.). I asked her, “So you decided your senior year to enter Loretto?” She answered, “No, I decided after my First Communion that I wanted to be a Sister of Loretto.”
Reflecting on 80 years of service and counting!
Genevieve received her degrees in music theory from Webster College and taught all grades up to and including at the college level. I told her I had been a Sister of Loretto for 32 years and that she was quite an inspiration to me; after which she couldn’t help but give a hearty laugh because by comparison my years must have seemed to her like a drop in the bucket.
“In reflecting on your 80 long years as a Sister of Loretto,” I asked, “if you had to do it over again, would you still have gone to the convent?” She turned to look directly at me from above her glasses, smiled and gave me an emphatic “YES!”
Thank you, Sr. Genevieve, you are indeed an inspiration to us all.
